Job Description – STORE MANAGER

Reports To: Operations Supervisor

Exempt Position

Note: This document describes the major responsibilities of the Saver Group Store Manager. Management reserves the right to assign other duties as required to ensure efficient store operations.

General Qualifications:

 Customer service orientation and willingness to deal with people every day.

 Knowledge of the grocery business; 3-5 years experience preferred.

 Attention to detail throughout the store (All departments and tobacco outlet.)

 Ability to manage the financial assets of the store.

 Knowledge of state and federal labor laws.

 Ability to delegate.

 Ability to create a teamwork atmosphere throughout the store.

Essential Functions/Job Responsibilities

 Customer Service – Meet customer needs with a smiling face and remember that the customer always comes first. Always make our customers know that they are important and special to us.

Handle all customer questions and concerns.

Financial and Operational Responsibilities:

 Control Inventory levels for all departments; Stay within budget on all inventory items.

 Responsible for bank accounts; petty cash account – maintain accurate records. Accurately report deposit amounts to Corporate Office.

 Ensure that bank deposit is taken to the bank daily.

 Get authorization before paying loans or making purchases from the safe. Unauthorized payments may result in your termination.

 Bills – Input all invoices in computer and mail hard copy to central office on Monday for the previous week.

 Checks – Ensure that check-cashing policy is followed and cold check writers are handled properly.

 Inventories – Be present for all store inventories. Ensure that results of all inventories are sent to the Central Office.

 Till Balance – Ensure that each till is counted back and balanced on each shift. Ensure that cashier shortages are handled properly.

 Profitability – Manager has overall responsibility for profitability through cost containment and profit maximization.

 Develop working knowledge of all equipment within the store and be able to troubleshoot problems; communicate service requirements to maintenance team accurately in order to avoid unnecessary service call.

 Open, read, communicate, and respond to all mail messages relating to store operations.

Communication concerning pricing, specials, etc., is critical; manager must be aware of and implement directives contained in mail messages.

 Report any accidents or unsafe conditions to the Operations Supervisor. Complete the Saver

Group Incident Report immediately; keep copy and forward copy to the Corporate Office.

Employee Responsibilities:

 Communication with employees is the key to a successful Saver Group manager.

 Read, understand, and enforce Saver Group’s policies and procedures.

 Keep personnel/medical issues confidential.

 Report claims of discrimination, harassment, and/or illegal (drug) activity to HR immediately. No excuse for not reporting these issues.

 Handle disciplinary reports in a firm, fair, timely, and consistent manner. Partner with HR to ensure disciplinary reports are written in a clear and professional manner.

 Teaching – Continually teach team members how to best do their jobs.

 Hire, discipline and terminate employees – Handle these situations on a timely basis and keep good records on all employee situations.

 Notify Benefits Coordinator when an employee needs to be placed on personal leave or FMLA.

 Partner with HR and Operations Supervisor to ensure policies are consistently enforced company wide.

 Ensure that absentee calendars are updated regularly.

 Ensure that employees are paid correctly each week by double checking the timesheet and ensuring that errors are properly documented and calculated on the Time Card Calculator.

 Promotions, bonuses, raises – Award based on performance and always implement based on agreed criteria and on a timely basis.

 Review applications closely and interview candidates with department managers to ensure appropriate/nondiscriminatory questions are being asked. Check with HR Director before rehiring anyone.

 Schedules – Budget sales and work hours. Create schedules based on input from department heads. Follow the SPEH budget.

 Prior authorization from COO must be given before hiring a minor.

 Delegate and leave lists for next shift or on your days off.

 Ensure that new hire paperwork is completed properly in a timely manner. Urgent documents must be faxed to payroll the day the employee fills them out.

 Employee complaints – Listen to employees; give unhappy workers an opportunity to be heard. Keep accurate records of these situations.

 Ensure that Corporate office has all original copies of personnel documents – disciplinary reports, new hire paperwork, policy updates, etc.

 This position may require travel and include safe operation of company owned vehicles .
(NOTE: Saver Group requires full disclosure of driving records and driver’s license information with proof of such to be provided prior to employment)

Attendance Requirements:

 Exempt positions are required to work at least 45 hours per week.

 Required to close at least one night a week.

 Regular, on-site, attendance is required.

 Required to change scheduled shift with little to no prior notice.

 Changes to scheduled shift must be authorized by supervisor prior to change.

Security and Shoplifting

 Security – Ensure that back doors are locked and security cameras are in proper working order.

 Allow only management or key carriers to check in vendors.

 Only management/key carriers should have access to the office, safe, and management functions on the register.

 Only management/key carriers should have alarm codes.

 Review trash before employees take it to dumpster.

 Shoplifting – Create environment in which employees report all potential shoplifters to you and follow proper procedures.

Central Office Support

 Staff – Use support staff to assist with any questions or problems.

 Policies and Procedures – Ensure staff awareness of all policies and procedures implemented by the Central Office and comply with these guidelines. Ensure awareness of all mail messages and directives coming from Corporate Office/Employees.

Environmental Conditions/Physical Requirements:

 Lift boxes and equipment up to 50 lbs.

 May be required to be on one’s feet for extended periods of time.

 Exposure to outside weather conditions.

 Some stocking required on sales floor.

 Exposure to cleaning chemicals.
